Brew Monday is the campaign started by support group ‘Samaritans’ to counter ‘Blue Monday’, which falls on the third Monday of January – often referred to as ‘the most difficult day of the year’.
The Samaritans came up with the idea of Brew Monday to promote the power of chat and connection. Rather than continuing the myth that feeling blue should cause you to purchase a holiday. This day has a history attached to those winter blahs that can come. Especially in the month of January, right in the middle of winter.
Brew Monday encourages people to improve their mental health by getting a cup of coffee or tea with someone. It is a time to check in, have a conversation and listen to what your loved one have to say. These types of efforts at building or reinforcing relationships are meant to be a path towards keeping people in the community connected to one another. Functioning as a line of defence against depression, despair, and suicide.
Practical Tips for a Positive Mindset this Brew Monday
Wellity have put together some practical tips to help you achieve a positive mindset:
Start your day on a positive note
Allow time in the morning for a relaxing ritual, whether that’s positive affirmations, practicing mindfulness or simply take the time to rest and enjoy a warm drink. By building this into your morning routine, you’ll begin to react both optimistically and constructively throughout the rest of your day.
Practice gratitude
Recognise what you are thankful for, it will help you acknowledge the good in your life and magnify positive emotions. Practicing gratitude can help to improve your mental wellbeing, better your relationships, and boost self-esteem.
Acknowledge negative thoughts
Take the time to influence the process of challenging negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones. This allows you to break the negative cycle, enabling you to make strategic decisions at stressful times, and improve your overall outlook on things.
Surround yourself with good company
Remove the negative people in your life and connect with those who lift you up and make you feel important. Those you spend the most time with can influence your mood and overall outlook on your life.
