Recently, the NHS Barts Health Trust sparked widespread dispute with their job post, initially shared on August 15th on LinkedIn and the NHS website. Accusations of discrimination against men surfaced.
The controversy erupted when the ad specified a preference for candidates who ‘identify as female’. Charities and experts condemned the NHS for its discriminatory stance. Phil Mitchel, a therapist for male abuse victims, voiced concern that non-female applicants might face bias, undermining inclusivity. Thus, creating an environment that neglects the idea of inclusivity. Professor Jenny Gamble, an expert in midwifery for Coventry University, has also stated how this ad ‘does nothing for inclusion and diversity’ – something all organisations should be striving for.
We all come to work with the expectation that we are going to be shown respect and treated appropriately – even from the initial stages of applying for a job. Our inclusive leadership session at Wellity will empower attendees with the awareness and Knowledge to cooperate and communicate with respect, embrace differences, address concerns in a constructive way and help contribute towards a collective vision built on a collaborative, respectful and harmonious work culture.
